Place an appropriate layer of substrate across the base of the terrarium, adjusting the depth according to your pet’s needs. Species that like to burrow will benefit from a deeper layer so they can dig tunnels and create hiding spots. For tropical species, lightly moisten the substrate and maintain humidity by misting the enclosure regularly.
Although coconut substrate naturally helps control odours, it is recommended to remove waste and soiled areas through daily spot cleaning. For optimal cleanliness and enclosure hygiene, replace the entire substrate approximately every 6 months.
For a more natural texture and appearance, the substrate can also be mixed with coconut fibre or coconut soil.
